Post-Christmas Social at Grand Ravine

Homes by Deltona, a Florida luxury home builder is sponsoring an after Christmas social for the owners at Grand Ravine which is located at the intersection of US 1 South and Roehrs Road in beautiful Saint Augustine, Florida, the nation’s oldest city!

The after Christmas event will be hosted by the onsite Sales Agent, David Huffstetler on Wednesday, December the 28th.

In planning for the event David had indicated that, “Two of the absentee owners will be in town after Christmas and they are very excited to be able to attend and get to know the other residents. These particular owners were unable to attend the previous events that were sponsored by Homes by Deltona.“

David went on to say, “You have to know that Grand Ravine residents are the best!  They literally are from around the world. We have full-time residents from Europe and different parts of the US, including the Northeast, Colorado, Indiana and South Dakota.  Our residents are known to spontaneously gather lawn chairs around a fire pit and share warm conversations with a glass of wine.”

Among the new communities in Saint Augustine, Homes by Deltona at Grand Ravine is the greatest place to live.   Given our incredible residents and the quality constructed homes, Homes by Deltona at Grand Ravine is a the perfect location for your new St. Augustine home.

Mama Tommy’s Food Blog

It has now been six months since my nephew Zack launched our family food blog.

When it came to choosing a name for the blog, Zack and my brother Michael both suggested we name it Mama Tommy’s. Mama Tommy’s was a small business I owned in N.Y.C. I peddled homemade garlic butter to 12 specialty shops.

My wife June just finished making a cook book using recipes from the blog which she plans to give as a Christmas gift to the 5 households which are connected to the blog.

In the preface of the book June writes: If you are just finishing eating breakfast and say “What are we going to have for dinner” – you must be a Koulermos.

Food was a big part of my family. My Dad was born in Greece. He owned and operated a restaurant. My mother was of Italian decent. Having a Mediterranean heritage, there was always great food and lots of it. I started cooking myself when I was strong enough to bring a chair to stand on so I could reach the stove top.

The other day my Nephew Matt sent out an e-mail seeking a Chili recipe. He was asked to make chili by his employer for their company holiday party. Within the next 2 hours, 12 e-mails where flying around with all wonderfully different chili recipes for Matt.

The blog has been a great way for our family to keep in touch. Especially since June and I are living in a Florida community and everyone else is spread out in different areas. This is a great time of year to look back on. It makes me smile knowing I have a fun family who has an incredible love for food and entertaining.

Merry Christmas!

Grand Ravine at portofino

Grand Ravine participated in “A Holiday Showcase at P0rtofino” located in the St Augustine Shores.  The event was on Saturday, December 10. It was a day of fun, games, music and art.

The proceeds from the event were donated to the St. Johns County Pet Center.

To register for each drawing, you toured the Grand Ravine Condominiums, San Savino single family homes and Portofino Condominiums.

The vendor representing Grand Ravine is one of our residents, Patti Beal.  She offered “Designs by Poochie,” a Holiday Collection of clothing for that special canine member of the family.  She had adorable clothing for both males and females from small to large sizes.  The male collection is a formal tuxedo and the female collection is a lacy gown.

Florida Dude Ranch Adventure

Homes by Deltona employee, Tom Koulermos, and his wife, June, recently had a weekend stay at Westgate River Ranch. If you are thinking about visiting a dude ranch, I think Tom would encourage you to take the adventure! Vacations are great, but it’s always a wonderful feeling to be home again, and we hope that you will consider calling the beautiful golf course communityIsles of the World, your home!

The ranch was nestled on 1,700 acres of land located near Lake Wales. Our friends Bubba Bob and Debbie joined us, and we hall had a great time.

The ranch offers a variety of things to do…

On Saturday we had breakfast at the general store then off for a walk to shoot some photos.

We retreated to the pool until our reserved time for an airboat ride on the Kissimmee River.

We saw 2 alligators and lots of wildlife…

Late that afternoon we were off on a hayride. We sang country songs while watching the cowboys drive the cattle off the pastures before the hayride ended at a cookout.

I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girls’ hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
Oh I should’ve been a cowboy

Next we went to the rodeo and one of the riders got kicked around pretty hard.

We danced away the evening to the music of a live country band at the saloon. Both Debbie and my wife, June were dressed in full country outfits.

What a great time we had enjoying good friends and the great outdoors here in Florida!

Made in the USA

Homes by Deltona employee, Tom Koulermos, discusses his thoughts on appliances that typically only make an appearance on Thanksgiving Day:

When we were preparing to serve our Thanksgiving Day meal I decided to use 2 small appliances that my wife and I have owned for years yet hardly ever get to come out of the kitchen cabinet:

I mashed the potatoes with an electric hand mixer and I sliced thin juicy slices of turkey breast with an electric knife.

I thought what a joy it is to have these fantastic kitchen utensils. I don’t want to guess how old they are but they operated perfectly.

As I was cleaning both I noticed the mixer had a sticker on it. The sticker read, Made in the USA/Buy American. I then checked the bottom of the knife and it also was made in the USA.

I started to wonder. These were not extravagant purchases at the time they were bought. So why can’t the USA still make products like these at an affordable price? I think I am going to keep these 2 Hamilton Beach kitchen toys and be thankful that American workers received a pay check for making them.

Holiday Season Start-Up

Homes by Deltona employee, Tom Koulermos was asked to decorate this year’s company Christmas tree and document his experience:

I was given the task to design and decorate this year Christmas tree entry for the St. Johns Festival of Trees. The entry is by Homes by Deltona “Isles of the World” community in World Golf Village.

I did not want to enter a typical green tree with red bows. I decided to go with the theme of A Tropical Christmas. The theme goes with Isles. Luckily my wife June had some import and we both went to work.
We searched the internet for trees, ornaments, decorations, tree skirts and more. I envisioned a turquoise tree with lots of colorful ornaments. Ornaments alone can be very expensive. With a limited budget we found painted wooden cut-outs of things that you may see or use on an Island. These cut-outs were inexpensive enough but we knew we would have to convert them into ornaments. We are also using pink Hawaiian leis for garland and a starfish for the top.

We invited all our fellow employees to join us for some holiday cheer and to hang some ornaments. This has certainly been a fun project and one heck of a way to roll into the holidays.

Camping Winter Wonderland

Homes by Deltona employee, Sandy Rainwater, shares her pre-Thanksgiving experience with her grand kids:

The week before Thanksgiving is a very busy week.  With so many family extended members, it can be difficult to find your own special time with grand kids!

This year I decided to take a different path for mine:  This past week I have enjoyed a great time putting together a “Camping Winter Wonderland” in my living room for the “Grands.”

I purchased two dome “tents” from Gander Mountain, for juniors, in olive for the boy, and pink for the girl.  Then purchased coordinating sleeping bags, and the blow up mattresses to go inside.  Additionally, the camp ground is decorated with one small pre-lit tree, two reindeer with lights, a snowman with lights and some electric fireplace logs to finish off the scene.

Flashlights, compasses, small camping lights and an assortment of books finish the inside of their private suites. The children’s Uncle Jack will be camping with them outside their tents in his sleeping bag!

We watched movies and ate smores with hot chocolate for a long evening of entertainment before we celebrated the big Turkey Day.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

Grand Ravine Amenity Center is Open!

We are excited to announce that we’ve completed the amenity center at Grand Ravine, our Mediterranean-style townhome community near St. Augustine Shores. The center, which is now open for residents, features a pool and surrounding patio area, with an arbor and restrooms. We’ve also begun construction on a building with the original townhome floor plans.

Many of our residents have been waiting for the amenity center for a while, as it was promised by the previous developer. Now that we’ve purchased Grand Ravine, we’re excited to fulfill, and in many cases improve upon, the original plans for the community. We are currently redesigning the floor plans to accommodate demand for more one-floor units. We’ll provide details, including the new designs and pricing, later this year.

If you’d like more information on Grand Ravine, please contact David Huffstetler at (904) 797-4126. The community is open for visitors Monday – Saturday 9:30am to 5:30pm, and Sunday noon to 5:30pm.

10 Years and Still Going Strong!

On Nov. 18th Alice Edwards celebrated her 10 year anniversary with the Deltona Corporation.

Each month in our joint business meeting we go over the birthdays for the month and the anniversaries of those employed here. Most everything has changed in the recent years and new divisions were created – so we have very few who have been here long term. So when it was announced that Alice Edwards had been here 10 years, everyone said we should have a surprise party and that’s what we did!

The celebration took place at the Deltona Realty office in the St. Augustine shores, where there are 4 agents ready and waiting to help you with your real estate needs.

Deltona also has an office in World Golf Village in the Shoppes at Murabella. There you will find 6 more agents ready to find you a home, or take you around to Homes by Deltona‘s 5 different communities in the area: Laterra Links, San Savino, Portofino, Isles of the World, and Grand Ravine.
